Just where the actual fuck is all this water coming from? Yep, another day wasted at the boat. Because of floods. I definitely should have gone away. Hindsight. 20/20. You know the rest.
I honestly don’t understand where all the water has come from, because we’ve not had much rain, not locally anyway. It’s quite possible it’s run off from further north, but this much? It’s also not tidal, the boat isn’t on the tidal part of the river, that’s further east. The pictures don’t do the level of flooding any justice. It’s definitely much higher than the last time the boat yard flooded. I knew instantly on my arrrival that I was in shit street because I couldn’t get much further than the entrance road to the yard.
By my estimations the river is at least 4 times wider and at least 3 or 4 feet higher than its normal level. In the picture below, if you look to where the cock is pointing (at a little blue playground toy) that’s where I normally park. The positives? The boat is still floating, and my professionally tied mooring lines are doing the trick. I seriously doubt there will be a Day 5 at the boat, I don’t think the water will have subsided enough. Attention-Whores-R-Us posted pictures to social media yesterday and a few people (Including Zed) have suggested getting a small boat/kayak for times like these. It’s a good idea, I actually have an inflatable canoe stored somewhere. But, and it’s a very big but, can you imagine me trying to balance on the fucking thing, or not get swept away by the strong river current? Yeah me neither, so it is a hard no for now.
