Back in October I wrote about the “Every hole is a goal” family. The backing plates I created for all the massive holes that had been cut out in the boat. Refresher here. Well those backing plates finally made their way on to the boat, and stayed there for a few weeks until I got around to bevelling the holes. The holes I could reach that is. In no particular order, Mirror Mirror, Walkie Talkie and Glory Hole all had their backing plates attached.
Of course it wasn’t without incident, someone, and we won’t mention names keeps forgetting all about the “Measure Twice, Cut Once” rule. As you can tell by the above picture, I made the backing plate for Mirror Mirror too small. This was easily fixed by recycling a bit of thin marine plywood I’d saved from when I stripped the boat out. The workmanship is as shoddy as you’d expect from a master craftsman like myself. (It was the first time I’d ever done a proper fibreglass repair, give me a break!)
Motivated by my progress I went ahead and put the backing plates on Slot Gob, Liar Liar, Pork Pie 1, Pork Pie 2 and Sponge Bob. These only have the backing plates on them because they’ll get repaired properly when the boat finally gets hauled out of the water when I want to repair the hull. That left just Fuck Pit and Cock Slot to repair. That update will be in a later blog post.
