Beasty, have you gone all “Boat Wanker” on us? What the fuck is that title about?

Well no, of course I haven’t gone all boat wanker on you. Yes, those are nautical terms but have absolutely diddly shit to do with nauticalism (Is that an actual word? – Fucked if I know). I am trying my hardest to think ahead as much as possible in an effort to not have to take two steps back after doing something, realising it doesn’t work and then having to undo what I’ve done.

Safe harbour, for those of you who don’t deal with software vendors  and may not know the term. It’s when they show off some new functionality in whatever system you have purchased that they’ve not yet deployed. They usually start any discussion off with “safe harbour” – In other words although the functionality might be in their prototype it may not actually make it into their release. A con of sorts, a cop out in case things go tits up between now and the actual deployment of their new feature.

Lesson over.

I’m going to use both terms in this post as it’s an exploratory post, in the hopes that, that fat country bumpkin Zed actually reads any of the waffle I write. As project manager I suppose he ought to know what the plan is.

So where to begin? Some of this post is supposition based on various things having been completed. (I’m pausing the post right here in draft so I can draw some pictures – Go grab a coffee or watch some Pornhub).

The first of these assumptions is thus: That I’ve managed to bung some primer and paint (black in case you were wondering) to the hull below the waterline, added a new waterline (white in case you were still wondering) and then to undo this:

Flip this bitch over and fuck her up from the other side. Or in boat wanker speak, uninvert the hull so it’s the right way round. Like so: (Sans the superstructure, because some bastard nicked it!)

With me so far? Good. The next job is to use the scaffolding roof supports to ensure the hull is supported and level. Incidentally I rearranged delivery of said supports to be delivered to a neighbour today. Still no fucking sign of them. DX really are a shower of shit aren’t they? The supposition is that my out of the box thinking with regards to the supports actually works.

Next up is to attach flat PVC strips to the top of the outside of the hull. By attach I mean glue them on with some sort of rubber sealant. Assumption: All the holes that Don Juan bored into the hull are now filled. Why only sealant? You’ll have to wait.

I just realised the writing is too small on the image, and I am not spending another 10 minutes trying to fix that. So it says: 50mm high x Whatever Length x Whatever thickness. Let’s not get too detailed. Just pretend it all works. Ok? These strips will completely encompass the top of the outer hull. Being hugged by PVC, sounds like a fucking brilliant night in to me!

Next up is to add some square shaped PVC piping of an unknown thickness just yet to the top of the inside of the hull so it’s flush with the outer flat strips. God help me having to draw that shit but I’ll try…

Have you guessed what I’m attempting to do yet? No? Need more clues? Okay then! For my next trick I am going to be adding D-shaped PVC to the inside lining of PVC I’ve added. The caveat here is it won’t necessarily be all the way around the boat. This D piping PVC will be flush with the edge of the hull. Something like this…

I’ll then be using PVC sheeting which will be supported by the square PVC piping for the interim.  to replicate bits of the boat like this:

The idea then is to fibreglass over the flat strips, over the D-pipes, over the square pipes (which will have been treated with release agent, then the PVC sheeting. That’s essentially the plan throughout the top side of boat. Still need to design the cabin et al, but baby steps.

*Please note this is conceptual for now.
