Instead of paying attention in a meeting at work today, I went a browsing. I found this:
*Start Boring History Lesson*
Reliance Marine in the West Country produced several craft from 19ft to 29ft in the 1970s and 1980s. These craft had quite radical hulls which were designed for high performance. Latterly the company was taken over by Relcraft Marine who went on to produce some new designs but the company also went heavily into the working boat market, manufacturing high speed petrol craft primarily for foreign markets.
The Relcraft 23 Sapphire was the first of the extensive range of small fast cruisers designed by John Moxham and Reliance Marine. Just under 300 Sapphires were produced between 1970 and 1980. The Relcraft 23 Opal and Relcraft 23 Coral were variations of the same hull, of which Reliance built a total of about 120.
The Sapphire has either four or five berths, the five berth version having a quarter berth under one of the cockpit seats. The cabin is open plan with a separate toilet compartment. The small aft cockpit has a hard canopy at the helm position.
The hull is deep-vee with concave chines that act as stabilising sponsons. Power comes from asingle petrol outdrive, usually Volvo or Mercruiser 200HP, the top speed is about 25 knots.
